DESIGN BRIAN LEITCH (KWEST)
COMMISSIONED BY 4ELEMENTS LIVING ARTS, CANADA 150
PHOTOGRAPHY BRIAN LEITCH (KWEST)
BUILT BY EVENTSCAPE, SEPTEMBER 2017

Eventscape was contracted to fabricate artist Brian Leitch’s sculpture called Intersection. Fabricated from Corten steel, it was installed as one of seven commissioned permanent sculptures for the Billings Trail and Sculpture Walk, located in Kagawong, Manitoulin Island and was supported by the Canada 150 fund.

The four pieces of the sculpture are each a different size and shape and represent the four directions: north, south, east and west. Each piece was brake-formed and laser cut with a bright blue epoxy paint finish by the artist on the tips. After exposure to the weather for several years, the Corten steel — sometimes called Weathering steel, and developed to eliminate the need for painting — will form a stable rust-like appearance. Each piece was mounted with threaded rod into a concrete base in the ground and covered with decorative rock to hide the connection details.
